Penn State Health becomes sole owner of the Surgery Center of Lancaster

Full ownership advances health system’s strategy to expand access to high-quality, convenient outpatient surgical care across central Pennsylvania
Penn State Health has assumed 100% ownership of the Surgery Center of Lancaster, effective Jan. 1, strengthening the health system’s ability to expand access to outpatient surgical care, align surgical services across its network and meet the rising demand for high-quality, convenient procedures close to home. Previously, the health system held 60% majority ownership of the ambulatory surgery center in Manheim Township.
“Becoming the sole owner of the Surgery Center of Lancaster is a deliberate step forward in our commitment to expand outpatient surgical access and deliver consistent, patient-centered care across our region,” said Kyle Snyder, president and chief operating officer of Penn State Health. “Full ownership allows us to align clinical workflows, standardize technology and scale best practices that benefit the communities we serve.”
Surgeons perform both pediatric and adult procedures at the Surgery Center of Lancaster, including ear, nose and throat, ophthalmology and orthopedic surgeries. Penn State Health will enhance the center’s capabilities through targeted improvements to infrastructure and technology. These enhancements will help provide efficient, coordinated care for patients, as well as for surgeons, anesthesia providers and staff.
Patients should experience seamless care throughout the transition. All Surgery Center of Lancaster employees will become Penn State Health employees and remain in their current roles, and many of the center’s previous physician owners are expected to continue practicing there. These steps ensure uninterrupted care while supporting improvements that will enhance the patient experience over time. Patient appointments and procedures will proceed as scheduled.
“This is an investment in Lancaster County and in the future of surgical care for our community,” said Joseph Frank, president of Penn State Health Lancaster and St. Joseph medical centers. “By integrating the Surgery Center of Lancaster more fully into our system, we will offer patients greater convenience, seamless transitions of care and the expertise they expect from Penn State Health.”
