Penn State Health names Kasia Konieczny Chief of Staff to CEO Dr. Michael Kupferman

Penn State Health has appointed Kasia Konieczny as its new vice president and chief of staff to Dr. Michael Kupferman, chief executive officer, bringing to the organization more than two decades of leadership experience in health system strategy, innovation and executive operations.

Konieczny joins Penn State Health following more than 15 years at Providence St. Joseph Health, one of the nation’s largest nonprofit health systems, where she led multi-billion dollar operational and growth initiatives. Her work included launching enterprise-level remote patient monitoring and teletherapy programs, strengthening physician partnerships, expanding specialty care access and improving caregiver engagement across multiple regions. She led major organizational initiatives that led to stabilized operations, improved workforce experience and strong partnerships with physicians and clinical leaders.

In her new role, Konieczny will serve as a senior strategic partner to Dr. Kupferman, helping to coordinate systemwide initiatives, improve decision flow and alignment and advance Penn State Health’s institutional priorities. She will also play a key role in strengthening relationships with Penn State and Penn State College of Medicine, as well as supporting executive team collaboration and governance engagement.

“Kasia brings significant experience, strategic insight and a proven ability to advance large-scale organizational priorities,” Kupferman said. “Her leadership will be invaluable as we continue building a stronger, more unified health system that delivers on our mission for the patients and communities we serve.”

Konieczny said she was drawn to Penn State Health’s academic foundation, clinical excellence and regional impact.

“I’m motivated by environments where mission and accountability go hand in hand,” Konieczny said. “Penn State Health has the academic foundation, clinical strength and regional reach to make a real difference. I am honored to contribute to an organization that is not only advancing medicine, but strengthening the health of the communities it serves.”

As chief of staff, she will help drive priority initiatives, translate executive goals into coordinated action and support performance stabilization and innovation efforts across the system. Konieczny noted that the scope of the role and the system’s momentum make this an especially compelling time to join Penn State Health.

“The opportunity to work with teams to help improves access, stabilize performance and advance innovation across the entire organization is deeply compelling to me,” she said. “I see Penn State Health as a system with strong mission alignment, credible scale and significant opportunity and I’m energized by the chance to help convert that potential into measurable, sustainable impact.”

Konieczny will begin at Penn State Health on Monday, March 23.
