Penn State College of Medicine faculty members Joshua Muscat, PhD, MPH, Professor of Public Health Sciences; Jonathan Foulds, PhD, Professor of Public Health Sciences; Zachary Bitzer, PhD, Assistant Professor of Public Health Sciences, and Andrea Hobkirk, PhD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry & Behavioral Health, Public Health Sciences, and Neural & Behavioral Sciences will present this month’s Topics in Addiction Seminar.

This seminar will provide an overview of the Penn State Tobacco Center of Regulatory Science (TCORS) that was recently funded by the FDA Center for Tobacco Products and the National Institute on Drug Abuse. The presentation will include an overview of the TCORS structure. The primary principal investigators will each present a brief rationale and study design for their respective projects.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of the seminar, attendees will be able to:

• Describe two research priorities for the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products;
• Identify two ways that product characteristics can affect toxicity; and
• Understand the role of emerging nicotine products in tobacco harm reduction.

Topics in Addiction is the monthly gathering of the Penn State Addiction Center for Translation. Topics are presented in accessible ways to be inclusive of all, regardless of training or background. The program hopes to reach not only scientists, clinicians, and trainees at Penn State, but also everyone in the community with interests in addiction and its widespread implications on research, clinical work, medical education, policy, and the community

The group meets on the second Tuesday of the month during the academic year from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom, and sessions are recorded.
