2016 Research Recognition Award recipients named
The Third Annual Research Recognition Awards Ceremony was held on Tuesday, May 10, following the Dean’s Spring Lecture in Junker Auditorium. The Research Recognition Awards honor the outstanding research achievements of College of Medicine investigators by highlighting individuals who have distinguished themselves in several areas of research.
The Research Recognition Awards are jointly sponsored by the Office of the Vice Dean for Research and Graduate Studies and the Unified Campus Research Team.
Dr. Leslie Parent, vice dean for research and graduate studies presented the following awards:
Outstanding Research Publication Award: Milena Bogunovic, MD, PhD, assistant professor, microbiology and immunology
Excellence in Education Research Award: Kelly Karpa, PhD, associate professor, pharmacology
Distinguished Early Stage Investigator Award: Dajiang J. Liu, PhD, assistant professor, public health sciences
Outstanding Collaborative Research Award: Karam El-Bayoumy, PhD, distinguished professor, biochemistry and molecular biology; R. Career Citation Milestone Awards: Edward Bixler, PhD, professor, vice chair for research, psychiatry and Keith Cheng, PhD, distinguished professor, pathology, biochemistry and molecular biology, pharmacology and chief, Division of Experimental Pathology, in recognition of receiving 500 or more citations; and James Broach, PhD, chair, biochemistry and molecular biology, director, Institute of Personalized Medicine, in recognition of 1,000 or more citations.
Career Research Excellence Award: Edward Bixler, PhD, professor and vice chair for research, psychiatry.
