Access Medicine available through Harrell Health Sciences Library

Harrell Health Sciences Library has a subscription to McGraw-Hill Medical’s Access Medicine, which provides access to some key medical texts as well as additional information and tools.

The Access Medicine logo includes the words Access Medicine and a small circle of triangles behind the second S in Access.Students can find important textbooks on Access Medicine, such as Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine; Current Medical Diagnosis & Treatment, Goodman & Gilman’s The Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics; and others. Access Medicine also offers a variety of ways to study: review questions, flashcards and a game-show-style quiz.

For College of Medicine faculty, Access Medicine provides tools to support educational efforts, including cases and images that can be used to create slides for lectures. In Access Medicine, educators can assign specific cases to students and have them email their results in order to evaluate their learning.

Clinicians can find useful information in Access Medicine as well. The Hospital Corner consolidates information from throughout Access Medicine that is particularly useful for clinicians. It also includes a procedures section, which contains videos of procedures such as lumbar puncture, insertion of a catheter and endotracheal intubation. There is also helpful drug information, including costs, as well as patient education handouts, 2 Minute Medicine for synopses of the latest research, and Diagnosaurus for differential diagnosis.

For residents, the Resident Readiness: Internal Medicine section contains cases with questions, tips to remember and suggested readings to assist with residency preparation. In addition, 2 Minute Medicine may be helpful to residents, as it summarizes the most recent research developments on a number of different clinical topics.
