Ahmad recognized with Excellence in Enhancing Diversity and Inclusion Award

Dr. Ayesha Ahmad of the Division of Geriatric Medicine at Penn State College of Medicine received the November 2024 Excellence in Enhancing Diversity and Inclusion Award.
Ahmad was recognized for her commitment to community service and education. As the vice chair of Diversity, Equity and Belonging for the College of Medicine, she has helped foster an inclusive environment for both patients and colleagues. She engages actively with medical students and faculty, offering mentorship and guidance that supports young women within the health system as they navigate and overcome inclusion challenges.
Her workshops and seminars promote diversity in health care, while her outreach as president of the women’s auxiliary at her mosque includes interfaith events and refugee resettlement efforts, assisting 30 families in two years. Her advocacy and leadership unite diverse groups, enriching both the community and the health system.
Ahmad chose Dr. Alia Chisty as her “hidden hero,” recognizing her exceptional commitment to Diversity, Equity and Belonging. “Despite her demanding roles as vice chair for education and program director for Internal Medicine, Dr. Chisty consistently goes above and beyond, bringing valuable insights and ideas as one of the most engaged and active members of the department’s DEIB council,” Ahmad said.
