Q&A with Andrea Murray, new Clinical and Translational Science Institute team member

Andrea Murray recently joined Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute as a community engagement coordinator in the Community-Engaged Research Core and as a project manager of the Translation of Despair and Healthcare supplement.

What are your job duties?

As the community engagement coordinator, my role is to help facilitate community participation in all stages of research, identify key research opportunities and support the development of useful research tools. I foster strong relationships for research collaboration between community health providers, policymakers and academic researchers to improve research-based practice and stimulate practice-based research.

As the project manager of the supplement, I plan, develop and maintain procedures that affect all facets of the supplement. I support the project through data collection and data analysis; interpret and present data to a variety of audiences; and interface with multiple levels of the organization and external entities to discuss the project.

What attracted you to Penn State?

I was attracted to Penn State because its provides its faculty and students an environment for innovative and scholarly research.

What is your background?

I have a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics from West Chester University as well as a Master of Public Health from West Chester. I previously worked as part of the research staff in the Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology, and at the Pennsylvania Health Department for the Bureau of Women, Infants and Children.

What have you liked most about your position so far?

In my position I am constantly learning something new every day about our institution and the work being done at Penn State. My position provides me with the opportunity to learn and grow every day.
