Armen named Hershey Medical Center August Physician of the Month
Dr. Scott Armen, chief of the Division of Trauma, Acute Care and Critical Care Surgery at Hershey Medical Center, was named Physician of the Month for August.
Armen holds several leadership positions at Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine, including Charlene J. Smith Professor and vice chair for patient safety and quality, Department of Surgery; and professor of neurosurgery.
Nominees recognized Armen as a dedicated and generous health care leader. In addition, he served as the chief surgeon for the 629th Forward Resuscitative Surgical Team and U.S. Army Reserve General Surgery consultant to the Army surgeon general. He has deployed five times in support of combat operations, including twice to Iraq, twice to Afghanistan and once to Syria, excelling in roles like chief surgeon, chief of professional services and task force chief of surgery.
Armen is an active member of multiple academic trauma and critical care organizations, including the Western Trauma Association, Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. He is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, American College of Critical Care Medicine and American College of Surgeons. His clinical and research interests include thoracic and vascular trauma, shock resuscitation, sepsis, surgical quality improvement and combat casualty care.
