Be a fraud fighter: International Fraud Awareness Week Nov. 13-19

Fraud costs billions of dollars in damage to companies, governments and individuals each year. It’s more than money though ─ it can also dramatically affect the quality of life of its victims. Find out how to protect yourself and Penn State Health by learning some important facts about fraud during International Fraud Awareness Week Nov. 13-19.
What is fraud?
Fraud can be defined as intentionally deceiving a person or an organization for financial or personal gain.
How much money is lost to fraud?
According to the most recent surveys conducted by the Association for Certified Fraud Examiners:
- Organizations lose 5% of revenue each year to fraud.
- $100,000 is the median loss of a fraud case in health care.
How do I report fraud?
If you see something at work that doesn’t seem right or if you think you are the victim of a fraud, take action.
At Penn State Health:
- Share your concern with your supervisor or another Penn State Health leader.
- Report your concern via the Compliance hotline at 800-560-1637 or EthicsPoint ─ Penn State Health.
- If you receive a suspicious email to your Penn State Health email box, use the “Report Suspicious” icon. See the Cybersecurity and Privacy Infonet page.
- If you suspect a cybersecurity or privacy incident, contact the Office of Cybersecurity and Privacy.
Every employee, regardless of position, can help prevent fraud.
