Be a fraud fighter: International Fraud Awareness Week through Nov. 18

From phishing to charity scams to calls from an alleged loved one asking for money, fraud costs billions of dollars each year. Learn how to protect yourself and Penn State Health during International Fraud Awareness Week through Nov. 18.
What is fraud?
Fraud means to intentionally deceive a person or organization for financial or personal gain.
How much money is lost to fraud?
In 2022 alone, the Federal Trade Commission reported 2.4 million cases of fraud with a total reported loss of $8.8 billion.
How do I report fraud?
Every employee, regardless of position, can help prevent fraud. If you see something at work that doesn’t seem right or if you think you are the victim of a fraud, here’s how to take action:
At Penn State Health:
- Share your concern with your supervisor or another Penn State Health leader.
- Call the Compliance Hotline at 800-560-1637 or report your concern online at EthicsPoint ─ Penn State Health.
- If you receive a suspicious email, click on the “Report Suspicious” icon in Outlook or forward the email as an attachment to: phishing@pennstatehealth.psu.edu. Detailed instructions and additional resources can be found on the Cybersecurity Report Suspicious Email Infonet page
- If you suspect a cybersecurity incident, contact Cybersecurity via the Information Services Help Desk: 833-577-HELP (4357), submit a request through ServiceNow, or email cybersecurity@pennstatehealth.psu.edu.
