Christmas at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital: toys galore and a Santa video conference
Christmas arrived early at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital last week. Two businesses hosted events to spread holiday cheer to young patients who may not be able to celebrate at home with friends and family:
- Santa Claus took some time out of his packed schedule on Dec. 7 to virtually visit with pediatric patients at the hospital. The Child Life Program and Cisco Systems arranged for a direct connection between the North Pole and the Children’s Hospital, which allowed children to tell Santa what’s on their wish lists via video monitor with a web-enabled camera. The visit included some room-to-room visits that let patients talk with Santa on an iPad.
- Local Rite Aid associates delivered lunch and more than 100 toys to the Children’s Hospital on Dec. 6. The annual visit was part of Rite Aid’s ongoing partnership with Children’s Miracle Network. In addition to hosting the holiday lunch, Rite Aid has raised more than $300,000 for Children’s Miracle Network at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital in the last year through a golf outing and balloon icon sales in its stores.
