College of Medicine Public Health Program hosts open house

Penn State College of Medicine’s Public Health Program hosted an open house Oct. 18 at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital. The event integrated networking opportunities with a student-led panel discussion featuring Penn State graduate students in the Master of Public Health (MPH), Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) and Doctor of Medicine/Master of Public Health (MD/MPH) degree programs.
The evening commenced with a reception welcoming guests currently completing an undergraduate education, as well as professionals in the public health field seeking advanced education.
The panelists offered academic and professional advice on the skills and leadership qualities required to be successful in public health. All students agreed that finding balance is key when pursuing a graduate degree while working. Two of the students described the value that their education brings to their internships in the Pennsylvania Department of Health and how the practical learning experience in the workplace offers insights in the classroom.
The event concluded with a networking session, which allowed prospective students time to connect with faculty.
The Public Health Program is accepting applications for its MPH and DrPH programs, as well as other graduate degrees, through Jan. 15, 2019. Learn more about the Department of Public Health Sciences and its graduate programs here.
