College of Medicine researchers publish article in cancer journal on peptides that could aid in early diagnosis
Nelson Shu-Sang Yee, MD, PhD, professor of medicine, and Ilias Georgakopoulos-Soares, PhD, assistant professor of biochemistry and molecular biology, along with other researchers, recently collaborated on an article published in the European Journal of Cancer.
Their study identified short peptides that are absent from the healthy proteome, but emerge during cancer development. Their findings provide evidence for the use of nullpeptides as cancer detection and therapeutic biomarkers.
