Construction of new Hershey campus parking deck begins Dec. 18
Construction of a new five-story parking deck on the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center campus is slated to begin on Tuesday, Dec. 18. The new deck will provide 1,247 additional parking spots when it is completed in fall 2019. It will be constructed adjacent to the University Conference Center, and a new loop road will provide access to the parking deck and the west side of campus.

Parking behind the University Conference Center will be permanently eliminated as a result of the project. There will also be temporary disruptions to the parking available for those using the University Fitness Center. The parking area next to the Fitness and Conference Center (by the Gromor Barn) will be accessed through the A-1 parking lot. The gate to the A-1 parking lot will be removed, and the area reserved for University Fitness Center users will be indicated by signs.
Plans to reduce capacity challenges at the A-1 lot include redirecting some vehicles to the new Academic Support Building parking lot. Overflow parking for the A-1 lot will be directed to the Academic Support Building lot, if necessary, where a new shuttle station has been built. In addition, anyone who attends a daytime event at the University Conference Center may park in the Academic Support Building lot and take the shuttle to the conference center. Employees are encouraged to keep their cars in their assigned parking space and use the shuttle.
The expanded parking will accommodate continued growth as the Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine undertake several key expansion projects, including the planned College of Medicine Innovation Pavilion, a new research and education facility, and the Penn State Health Children’s Hospital and Emergency Department expansion projects, currently in progress.
The new parking deck will be engineered to support expansion if necessary. The $35 million project was awarded to design-build firm Clayco Inc.
