COVID-19 Public Health Emergency ends May 11. See important details and deadlines to prepare for changes.

The federal government is ending a number of the provisions under the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency beginning Thursday, May 11.
Penn State Health leaders, providers, managers and employees need to review and understand the implications of these changes and their effective dates before they occur. The Revenue Cycle team has developed a document containing important details and related deadlines. Key changes will affect:
- Numerous telehealth services and practices, including resident supervision and technical-only services
- Remote patient monitoring
- Insurance payments and reimbursements
- Skilled nursing facility admissions
- Pharmacy
- Reimbursements for swabbing
- Off-site screenings (Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act)
- Behavioral health services
In addition, Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program auto-renewals ended on April 1, and all covered patients must renew coverage so they do not risk loss of insurance. Flyers will be available soon on the Penn State Health Digital Storefront for clinics, admissions and billing staff and financial counselors.
