The Division of Geriatric Medicine in the Department of Medicine at Penn State College of Medicine recently launched its inaugural Geriatric Scholars Program, focused on enhancing care for older adults ages 65 and over.

Nicole Osevala and Laura Norton sit at a table with several other participants of the Geriatric Scholars Program launch event.

Nicole Osevala, MD, left, chief of the Division of Geriatric Medicine, and Laura Norton, clinical staff leader of the medical intensive care unit at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, discuss the program with other attendees during the launch event at the Hershey Country Club.

Covering topics like delirium and dementia care, this two-day event featured a keynote address by Michele Szkolnicki, senior vice president and chief nursing officer at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

The program was developed by Rollin Wright, MD, MS, and Jasmine King with support from Nicole Osevala, MD, Division of Geriatric Medicine chief.

Scholars will continue their education with monthly Lunch & Learn sessions through 2025 to go in-depth on other topics related to geriatric medicine and continue their training from September 2024.

The program is funded by the Harry Albertman Chair in Geriatric Medicine Endowment.
