Elsevier research intelligence tools available on the library website

The Penn State community continues to have access to Pure, SciVal, Funding Institutional and Scopus. This was made possible by funding from the Office of the Provost and Office of the Senior Vice President of Research, and contract negotiations of University Libraries.

Scopus is an abstract and citation database of scientific journals, books and conference proceedings. Beyond biomedicine, the database also covers technical fields, social sciences, arts and humanities. Pure is Penn State’s faculty research networking platform, which shows research output and related data by individuals and units. The Pure portal is fully accessible to the public, and enhances the visibility and discoverability of research at Penn State, both internally and externally. Faculty publications and citation counts in Scopus feed into Pure.

SciVal is Elsevier’s institutional benchmarking tool used to compare peer institutions by visualizing research performance and identify and analyze emerging research trends. Over 20,000 global institutions are included in the analyses. Funding Institutional is a database of over 18,000 funding opportunities with information on over 7 million awarded research grants from a wide-range of funders. Users can learn more about funders, customize searches and set up alerts for relevant funding prospects.

Scopus, SciVal, Pure and Funding Institutional are available on the Harrell Health Sciences Library’s databases page. Any questions, including requesting training on these resources, can be directed to the library email address at herref@pennstatehealth.psu.edu.
