Etter earns DAISY Award for outstanding patient care

Elizabeth Etter, a nurse on 6 Acute Care at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, was selected as the December DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award winner. Her patient, Robert Pramik, nominated her.
“Liz is a role model,” Parmik said in his note nominating her, “and her standards set the bar high for others to aim for.”
Judy Himes, Hershey Medical Center senior vice president and chief nursing officer, presented Etter with a DAISY Award certificate, a pin, a hand-carved Shona sculpture entitled “A Healer’s Touch” and a treat to share with her unit.
Pramik said Etter went the extra mile to make sure he and his wife were comfortable and well informed.
“Liz had a way that she could tell by my expression how I was feeling,” he said. “She didn’t just offer me medicine, but readjusted me and made me comfortable, and readjusted things on my tray to try to make them more accessible.”
DAISY Award Mission
The Daisy Award was created in memory of Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura. The DAISY Foundation was established by his family to keep his spirit alive. Its primary mission is to express gratitude to nurses for the work they do for patients and their families every day.
