Doctoral student’s research honored by department
Gary J. Farkas, a doctoral student in the Anatomy PhD program at Penn State College of Medicine, received an award for “Excellence in Graduate Student Research,” presented by the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation on June 7, 2018.
The award recognizes Farkas’ research productivity and contributions to the field of spinal cord injury exercise physiology research, including more than 15 regional and national poster and platform presentations, a book chapter, seven first- and second-author manuscripts, and an invited webinar by the Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals, as well as medical student mentorship.
Farkas, who will defend his thesis in July 2018, is completing is doctoral work in the laboratory of David R. Gater, MD, PhD. He is originally from Chicago and received his bachelor of science in kinesiology from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2012.
