Federici named Hershey Medical Center’s February Physician of the Month

Hershey Medical Center’s Physician of the Month award for February has been presented to Dr. Elizabeth Federici, assistant professor of medicine in the division of blood and vascular disorders.
Federici’s colleagues say she is a trusted physician, colleague and educator. Her nominators highlight her balanced approach to solving problems, commitment to improved access to care and high level of integrity.
Federici’s achievements include:
- Serving as an academy coach for internal medicine residents, with consistent marks of achievement for teaching quality and professional guidance
- Investigating recurrent venous thromboembolism that occurs despite treatment with anticoagulation (a clinically challenging scenario that leads to significant morbidity, mortality and health care costs)
- Working with her team to enhance inpatient and outpatient experiences
- Designing an integrative science course for medical students that integrates basic sciences and clinical skills to manage anticoagulants in the treatment of persons with thromboembolism, stroke and atrial fibrillation
In 2020, Federici received the Exceptional Patient Satisfaction Recognition Award from the Penn State College of Medicine Department of Medicine. Other recognitions include Best Inpatient Resident for Internal Medicine Residency from Penn State College of Medicine and Exemplar of Professionalism from the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the American College of Physicians. She is a member of the American Society of Hematology, American College of Physicians, Hemostasis and Thrombosis Research Society and Society of General Internal Medicine.
