GME Best Practices: Planning formal remediation

Over the last several years, the Office of Graduate Medical Education at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center has worked with several programs when the need for formal remediation plans and appropriate documentation have occurred.

Following a GME retreat that touched on the requirements of these plans, the GME office provided an outline to programs that addressed what is felt to be essential elements in these efforts toward remediation that benefit both the resident/fellow as well as the program.

In addition to the template mentioned above, the GME office suggests all programs review a recent article in the Journal of Graduate Medical Education that provides background and additional content for these plans/documents.

Internal users can view the Remediation Outline and the full-length JGME article in the GME Best Practices folder on the network drive.

Program directors and coordinators with questions, comments or suggestions based on their experience in this area are invited to contact the GME office.
