College’s Gold Humanism Honor Society chapter receives highest ranking
The Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) comprises more than 25,000 health care professionals in training and in practice who have been recognized for practicing patient-centered care. Penn State College of Medicine supports both a resident chapter and a medical student chapter of the society.
The College of Medicine’s medical student chapter, under the leadership of adviser Cheryl Dellasega, PhD, MS, professor of humanities, recently received the Gold Foundation’s highest rating of “Exemplary” based on its triennial chapter check-in.
The rating is based on events, activities and programs designed or conducted at least in part by GHHS medical students that:
- increase engagement and empathy with the diverse patient community they serve
- encourage clinician resilience and team-building
- teach advocacy and leadership skills critical for today’s clinicians
- highlight the importance of compassionate care at all levels in the health care workplace
