Hampden Medical Center team celebrates first anniversary with treats, employee artwork, Nittany Lion

Hampden Medical Center employees and leaders celebrated the one-year anniversary of the medical center’s opening. The 110-bed acute care hospital in Hampden Township opened on Oct. 1, 2021, giving residents of Cumberland and Perry counties and surrounding areas easier access to Penn State Health’s high-quality, specialized health care.
“This is a beautiful, inviting building for our community, but it’s the people who have made it a place of comfort and healing,” said West Shore Regional President Don McKenna. “It’s not easy to open a new hospital, build a new team and learn new processes. Penn State Health leaders appreciate everything the Hampden staff has done to bring safe, high-quality, compassionate care to our patients and families, and we wanted to celebrate this first anniversary with them.”
The weeklong celebration included a free coffee and tea bar, rounding snack carts, an ice cream social and the employee thank you picnic. Staff enjoyed great food, camaraderie and photo ops with the Nittany Lion.
Employees were invited to submit T-shirt designs, and staff voted for their favorites. The winner, created by Katrielle Marzano, a nursing assistant on the Intermediate Care Unit, was featured on free shirts given to staff. Rebecca Brightbill, a nursing assistant on the Intensive Care Unit, created the design that garnered the second highest vote was created by. Her design was used to decorate celebration cookies.
