Harrell Library partners with Hershey Public Library for consumer health workshops
A team of librarians from the Harrell Health Sciences Library (HHSL) partnered with the Hershey Public Library to deliver “Connect For Your Health” — a series of virtual workshops on finding and evaluating consumer health information.
These workshops were targeted toward individuals who fall on the other side of the “digital divide” and do not have at-home internet access. Through grant funding from the Network of the National Library of Medicine: Mid-Atlantic Region, participants were able to check out laptops and internet hotspots.
Each workshop was presented twice: once in January, and once in March. The topics of the workshops were Evaluating Online Health Information; MedlinePlus for Online Health Information; and Health Information in the News. The one-hour workshops were presented through Zoom and received a total of 16 participants.
The team of librarians included Marie Cirelli, Bradley Long, Alex Harrington and Amy Knehans from the HHSL, and Laura O’Grady, the director of the Hershey Public Library, and Alyson Tran, adult programming manager for the Hershey Public Library.
