Harshman recognized with Excellence in Enhancing Diversity and Inclusion Award

Sarah Harshman, practice site manager at Penn State Health Medical Group — Briarcrest, is the November 2025 recipient of the Excellence in Enhancing Diversity and Inclusion Award.
Harshman was selected for her leadership in ensuring high-quality, compassionate care for all patients and building a culture of respect and excellence among staff.
“Her daily actions reflect a deep dedication to the mission of the organization, making her a key asset to our success and patient and staff satisfaction,” says Jordanna Eaby, a clinical supervisor in pediatrics and adolescent medicine.
Harshman has led quality improvement initiatives and streamlined workflows to improve patient outcomes and satisfaction. “Sarah has encouraged staff in finding ways to make sure all patients feel safe and welcomed,” Eaby says.
She has also created a collaborative team approach and an inclusive work environment where everyone is valued and respected, Eaby says. She notes that Harshman leads her team to deliver positive outcomes, even in stressful situations, and consistently supports their personal and professional growth. For example, she encourages staff to seek continuing education to improve their understanding and delivery of care for LGBTQ+ patients.
Harshman identified Eaby as her hidden hero. “I could not do this job without her,” Harshman says. “She really is the other half of my brain. She has been by my side for all the recent changes in our clinic, especially the ones involving our Gender Health Clinic.”
