Hershey Medical Center, College of Medicine announce Employee of Year, Employee of Month award winners

Hershey Medical Center, the College of Medicine and Penn State Health Medical Group Academic Practice Division have named Jill Enck Employee of the Year. At the same time, the organizations are honoring the 2019–2020 Employee of the Month winners.

Any employee from Hershey Medical Center, the College of Medicine and Penn State Health Medical Group Academic Practice Division  may nominate a colleague for Employee of the Month through PAWS UP! Winners are then considered for the Employee of the Year award. Managers and physicians are not eligible.

Winners exhibit consistent compassion, concern and care for patients, their families, visitors and colleagues. They are effective and competent in work responsibilities, and display the attributes of Penn State Health’s RITE (Respect, Integrity, Teamwork and Excellence) values.

Employee of the Year

Jill Enck, surgical technologist, Operating Room, has been with the Hershey Medical Center for 25 years. She is known for being a versatile surgical technologist, working across multiple clinical specialties. Jill is respected for her extensive knowledge about surgical procedures and her commitment to sterile technique, as well as looking for new and better ways to get the job done safely and efficiently. Compassionate and caring, Jill is committed to the patients. She also mentors new staff and teaches instrumentation, sterile technique and surgical procedures at Harrisburg Area Community College.

September 2019 – Ed Ginder, food service worker, Main Kitchen

“Ed is a food service worker who inspires teamwork and efficiency by his example of work ethic and generosity. Ed is a natural leader.”

October 2019 – Susan Atwood, technical lab associate II, Special Hematology Lab

“Susan is a valuable member of the special hematology lab. She is responsible, reliable, and resourceful.  She … has knowledge that cannot be quantified.”

November 2019 – William (Billy) Weikel, fire safety inspector, Safety Department

“He interacts with staff from all levels of the organization with respect, encourages inclusivity and teamwork and inspires those around him to do the same.”

December 2019 – Drew Heying, child life specialist, Children’s Miracle Network Child Life

“What is most impactful to me is the number of families who remember Drew – most often by name – and the positive lasting impression he leaves on the family and patient.”

January 2020 – Richard Vickroy, group leader, central plant, Facilities

“Rich has the most in-depth knowledge when it comes to operations within the utility plants. He often fields questions from the other operators when he is off duty.”

February 2020 – Jill Enck, surgical technologist II, Operating Room

“Jill knows her job inside and out. She not only has the ability to anticipate a surgeon’s needs, but she is able to point out what needs to be done.”
