Hershey Medical Center announces departure of vice president of operations

Michelle Del Pizzo, vice president of operations for Hershey Medical Center, has accepted a new position as president of UPMC Memorial in York, Pa. She will depart from her current role in late September.
Since joining Penn State Health in 2011, Michelle has partnered with leadership in several clinical departments, including Emergency Medicine, Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Orthopaedics and Therapy Services, Pediatrics, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. In addition, she led teams in Emergency Management and Life Lion Emergency Medical Services.
Del Pizzo has been instrumental in leading several important initiatives, including the expansion of Penn State Health Children’s Hospital in 2020, a dedicated pediatric emergency department and the redesign of the Life Lion Critical Care and EMS Transport Service as an independent department with expansion into Berks and Lebanon counties. In addition, Del Pizzo has partnered with University Development, Children’s Miracle Network and The Four Diamonds Fund through Penn State Children’s Hospital to allocate philanthropic investments to clinical programs and research and strategic capital investments. She has supported the trauma teams to achieve both adult and pediatric trauma accreditations through the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation and the American College of Surgeons Level 1 Children’s Surgery Verification.
Del Pizzo’s leadership, cost-savings initiatives and focus on efficient operations have helped strengthen Hershey Medical Center’s reputation in the region.
Leadership is working on a transition plan and will communicate more details in the next few weeks.
