Hershey Medical Center, Penn State College of Medicine employees, award recipients recognized for service

Leaders from Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine gathered on Oct. 17 at the Historic Acres in Hershey to honor faculty and employees who have reached 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 years of service.
The organizations also honored recipients of the Steven and Sharon Baron Leadership Awards and Employee of the Year Award.
Speakers at the event included Deborah Addo, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Penn State Health and interim president at Hershey Medical Center, Dr. Kevin Black, College of Medicine interim dean, and Jane Mannon, Hershey Medical Center vice president of human resources.
Each employee received a gift to commemorate their milestone or award. Employees with 50 years of service were invited to speak about their contributions to the organization, patients and community. The event recognized 48 people for 25 years of service, 82 for 30 years of service, 33 for 35 years of service, 11 for 40 years of service and 6 for 45 years of service.
“Few organizations have the privilege of honoring employees for decades of dedicated work,” Addo said. “Members of our teams are proud to represent Penn State Health and enjoy working alongside their colleagues. Most importantly, our employees are committed to excellent work, which makes me very excited about the future.”
Three were recognized for 50 years of service:
- Cheston Berlin, Faculty Member, Department of Pediatrics, College of Medicine
- Allan Lipton, Oncologist, Hershey Medical Center and Professor of Hematology/Oncology, College of Medicine
- Ling Tan, Professor, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, Division of Adult Outpatient Services and Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, College of Medicine
Steven and Sharon Baron Leadership Award Winners
- Faculty ― Dr. Jeffrey Miller, Chair, Associate Dean of Administration, Professor of Dermatology, Department of Dermatology
- Manager/Supervisor ― Amanda Bornais, Manager, Access Scheduling, Penn State Heart and Vascular Institute
- Staff ― Michael Nelson, Exercise Physiologist, Pediatric Cardiology, Nyes Road Clinic
Employee of the Year Award Winner
Winner Kathleen Lake, specialist in nursing quality, was recognized for supporting and coordinating nursing teams through Hershey Medical Center’s Magnet application submission. Her project management skills and collaborative leadership style are appreciated and celebrated by her colleagues.
“Through the thorough Magnet process, our award recipient remained focused and solution-oriented,” wrote Lake’s nominator, Hershey Medical Center Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Michele Szkolnicki. “She inspires others with her ideas related to leadership outreach and her positive attitude.”
Lonna Blouch, systems analyst associate, said “our team knows Kathleen will provide help in any way she can, whether it be a kind word to help you through a difficult issue or directions to help you solve a problem. We are truly thankful for her work in the Department of Nursing.”
