Holy Spirit Medical Center Level II Trauma Center earns fourth-year accreditation

The Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation has granted Holy Spirit Medical Center’s Level II Trauma Center a fourth-year trauma center accreditation. This additional year of accreditation reflects the program’s consistent adherence to the rigorous standards required for trauma center verification in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Holy Spirit Medical Center was first accredited as a Level II Trauma Center in 2017, providing 24/7 comprehensive trauma care and giving central Pennsylvania patients rapid access to lifesaving surgical, critical care and multidisciplinary trauma services. Since that time, the trauma program has completed two consecutive three-year accreditation cycles with no significant deficiencies identified during state review. Trauma center volume has increased 109% since 2017, to more than 4,000 adult traumas during 2025.
As a result of its exemplary performance, the trauma center qualified to apply for a one-year accreditation extension, a distinction available to only a small number of programs that demonstrate sustained high performance and compliance with trauma system standards. Approximately 10% of trauma centers in the state were eligible to apply for this extension, and only two received the extension. The additional year of accreditation allows the program to build on its success while preparing for its next full trauma center survey.
“This fourth year of accreditation is a powerful affirmation of our trauma team’s extraordinary dedication to continuous improvement and the delivery of high-quality trauma care,” said Dr. Dale Dangleben, trauma medical director at Holy Spirit Medical Center. “Our program has continued to grow while maintaining the highest standards of care. The extension reflects our unwavering commitment to the patients and communities we serve.”
