Central Penn Parent Column Honored

The Mind on Health column in Central Penn Parent magazine, which features the advice of psychiatric experts from Penn State Health, received a gold award from the Parenting Media Association (PMA). Editors of Central Penn Parent received the award in the “Column: Child Development and Parenting Issues” category at PMA’s annual conference on March 1 in Florida.

Finding Inner Peace

Rev. David Simmons, director of pastoral services at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, will discuss “Finding Inner Peace and Purpose in the Midst of Chaos”:

“Good Day PA”

Penn State Health doctors will discuss the latest treatments for head and neck cancer on abc27’s “Good Day PA”:

  • Thursday, April 18
  • 10-10:30 a.m.
  • Live webchat from 10-11 a.m.

Dr. Neerav Goyal and Dr. David Goldenberg will explain procedures used in sinus and throat cancer surgeries. Dr. Karen Choi and Erin Sarsfield will answer questions on the webchat.

Earth Day

All are invited to the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center Facilities Department’s Earth Day Celebration event:

  • Monday, April 22
  • 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • A tent just south of the main dining area

Attendees will learn how Hershey Medical Center is reducing costs and increasing energy efficiency, find out about the campus master plan and discover ways to improve their own household energy use.

National Drug Take-Back Day

A Drive-Thru Prescription Drug Take-Back event – one of several nationwide coordinated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) – is slated:

  • Saturday, April 27
  • 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.
  • Three locations
    • Academic Support Building (Drive-Through Drop-Off): 90 Hope Drive, Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center campus
    • Penn State Health Medical Group – Lime Spring (Drive-Through Drop-Off): 2221 Noll Drive, Lancaster
    • Penn State Health Medical Group – Palmyra (Drive-Through Drop-Off) 941 Park Drive, Palmyra

Needles and syringes will be accepted. No items will be taken prior to 10 a.m. Twenty-four-hour drop-off boxes are available at police stations. The event is in partnership with Derry Township, East Hempfield Township and North Londonderry Township police departments.

Social Media as Public Health

Dr. Christian Sinclair, associate professor, palliative medicine at the University of Kansas Health System, will discuss “Social Media as Public Heath: the Clinician’s Role in Education and Advocacy”:

Emergency Preparedness Grand Rounds

Lt. Col. Eric A. Roberge, chief of radiology at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Wash., will discuss “Crisis Management and Key Concepts of Mass Casualties” during an Emergency Preparedness Grand Rounds:
