Nominations Open for Baron Awards

Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is now accepting nominations for the annual Steven and Sharon Baron Leadership Award. Employees may nominate co-workers, supervisors or faculty members for their award-winning contributions. Categories include nonsupervisory staff, managers/supervisors and faculty. Organizers will accept nominations beginning today until Thursday, Aug. 22. For more information and to submit a nomination form, click here.

Penn State College of Medicine will present the 24th White Coat Ceremony, where first-year medical students, including those pursuing their Doctorate of Medicine and Doctorate of Medicine/Doctorate of Philosophy degrees, receive their first white medical coats:

Sustainability Council Meeting

The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and College of Medicine Sustainability Council will hold its monthly meeting:

The council is an interdisciplinary group of faculty, staff, students and administrators that promotes the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by creating a sustainable campus community. For details, contact Ellen Miller.

Teddy Bear Clinic at Night Out for Public Safety

Penn State Health Children’s Hospital will have a Teddy Bear Clinic for kids during the Lower Paxton Police Department’s Night Out for Public Safety:

  • Tuesday, Aug. 6
  • 5-8 p.m.
  • Thomas B. George Park, 300 Nyes Road, Harrisburg

The event is free and open to the public. Parents can bring their child’s favorite stuffed animal and watch as children learn first aid and see the inside of an ambulance.

Parkinson’s Disease Fitness Class

The University Fitness Center will offer a fitness class for people with Parkinson’s disease:

  • Starting Thursday, Aug. 15, continuing every other Thursday
  • 4-4:45 p.m.
  • University Fitness Center

Exercise produces many benefits for people diagnosed with Parkinson’s, including increased physical function, improved gait and balance, cardiovascular fitness and a better quality of life. The class is free and available to the public.

Operations

Parking Garage Maintenance to Alter Traffic

Beginning Monday, Aug. 5, and continuing through Friday, Nov. 1, work crews will complete preventative maintenance on the fourth, fifth and sixth floors of the Centerview Parking Garage on the Hershey Medical Center campus. Expect intermittent closures of parking stalls, aisles and ramps. Signs will indicate changes in traffic patterns. Contact Ryan Murphy at 717-531-6899 for more information.
