Wild Onions Accepts Creative Work
Wild Onions, a literary publication of Penn State College of Medicine’s Department of Humanities, is accepting submissions. Faculty and staff — both clinical and nonclinical — patients, families, students and volunteers may submit original literary, artistic or photographic work (not previously published). The theme for the 2020 edition is “The Voice Within Us.” Submit your work here.
Upcoming Events
United Way Day of Caring — Sign-up Deadline Tomorrow
Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine employees, faculty and students are invited to help with community projects around the area on the United Way Day of Caring. The deadline to sign up is tomorrow, Friday, July 26. The event is:
- Friday, Sept. 6
- 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
- Register here
Employees must get their supervisor’s approval before signing up. They will receive a paid day off to participate in the Day of Caring and will not need to use vacation or PTO. Only employees and students may volunteer ― no spouses or children. United Way assigns volunteers to tasks based upon need. More details are available here.
Ice Cream Social
Penn State Health will host an ice cream social to celebrate its ranking among U.S. News and World Report’s Best Children’s Hospitals:

Penn State Chocolate Tour
The 9th annual Penn State Chocolate Tour, a day of cycling, walking and running events, supports research at Penn State Cancer Institute:
- Saturday, Aug. 3
- 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Parkinson’s Disease Fitness Class
The University Fitness Center will offer a fitness class for people with Parkinson’s disease:
- Starting Thursday, Aug. 15, continuing every other Thursday
- 4-4:45 p.m.

Exercise produces many benefits for people diagnosed with Parkinson’s, including increased physical function, improved gait and balance, cardiovascular fitness and a better quality of life. The class is free and available to the public.
Operations
South Parking Garage Entrance to Temporarily Close
Starting at 6 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, the entrance to the South Parking Garage at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center will close for paving. Employees may park in Lot H and use elevators or stairs through the garage. Work will be completed by midday, and the roadway will reopen. Call 717-531-8016 for more information.
