Penn State Health St. Joseph Honors Nurses
Penn State Health St. Joseph recognized more than 60 nurses with Nursing Excellence Awards. Ten of those honorees accepted the inaugural Mae Langan Nursing Award, which includes $25,000 in total scholarships. The winner must use the accompanying $2,500 award to enhance his or her clinical specialty. The Langan award honors Mae Langan, a 1934 St. Joseph Nursing School graduate and former St. Joseph Medical Center nurse.
Aggression Assessment
Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center has developed an aggression assessment as part of a new intake process for patients to address staff safety. The aggression assessment will consider both current and past episodes of various types of aggressive behavior. Patients will be assigned a score to indicate his or her potential for aggression. If the patient scores a medium or high risk for potential aggression, the nurse will assess the patient again in four hours. If the patient’s score indicates low risk, the nurse will assess the patient again in eight hours. After the patient is discharged, the score will stay on his or her chart for 90 days.
