Engagement Survey Closes Today
Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine employees are providing feedback about the organization by taking the 2019 Employee Engagement survey. The survey launched on June 3 and will close today. Employees should check their email for the invitation from Press Ganey and use their Penn State Health or College of Medicine ID number to access the survey. It takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. Employees who did not receive an email can contact the Press Ganey client support desk at mhdesk@pressganey.com or 1-800-849-2292. More information on the survey and employee engagement is available at mySolutions.
Armstrong Named Acting Chair of Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation
Dr. April Armstrong, the James E. Bobb Professor of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at Penn State College of Medicine, has been named acting chair of the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, effective July 1. Armstrong will replace Dr. Kevin Black, who will serve as interim dean at the College of Medicine. Armstrong is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and elbow reconstruction. She is currently the vice chair for clinical affairs and quality within the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation and chief of the Shoulder and Elbow Division.
United Way Trike Team Announced
Four trike racers and one alternate have been selected to represent Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine in the United Way of the Capital Region’s 23rd Annual Trike Race on July 19:
- Gary Paronish, Facilities, Buildings and Grounds
- Steve Furmanski, Facilities, Buildings and Grounds
- William Neide, Hematology and Special Hematology Lab
- Emily Kreider, Penn State Health Information Services Clinical
- Jason Callopy (alternate), Shipping and Receiving
They will race groups from other local organizations in this friendly competition at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center parking lot in Harrisburg. The Trike Race kicks off the United Way 2019 campaign.
Parking Violators to be Ticketed
Starting today, Parking Services at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center will no longer issue warnings to parking permit violators. Staff and students who park on campus and have not displayed a permit on their vehicle will be fined $30 per incident. Those who have applied for permits in the last 30 days but haven’t received them will be exempt.

Penn State Health Commission for Women General Assembly
The annual general assembly of the Penn State Health Commission for Women will be:

Lunch will be provided. This event is open to all staff, faculty, and students, regardless of gender.
Meditation Break
Lisa Wilhelm will host a Heart Rhythm Meditation practice:
- Wednesday, June 26
- Noon-12:30 p.m.
- Penn State Health Children’s Hospital, P1200A
Heart Rhythm Meditation is practiced sitting in a chair using a method of breathing that causes a shift in attention and breath rhythm. Wilhelm has completed a two-year training program at the Institute for Applied Meditation on the Heart based in Tucson, Ariz. The meditation will begin at 12:10 p.m.
