Penn State Honorary Alumni Awards

Two Penn State College of Medicine professors received the Penn State Honorary Alumni Award on May 31. C. Max Lang, George T. Harrell Professor Emeritus, and Dr. Rachel Levine, secretary of health for the commonwealth of Pennsylvania and professor of pediatrics and psychiatry at the College of Medicine, were among the five recipients honored at an award ceremony in University Park. Elaine Eyster, distinguished professor of medicine and pathology for Penn State College of Medicine, was named an honorary alumni in 2018.

Surviving & Thriving

More than 400 cancer survivors and supporters attended Penn State Cancer Institute’s Surviving & Thriving: 2019 Cancer Survivorship Celebration on May 29 at the Hershey Lodge. Sponsored by Highmark, the event featured presentations on nutrition, chair yoga and other topics. Tim Card, the Cancer Institute’s first patient to receive chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy, spoke about his journey to remission. See photos of the event.

Upcoming Events

Engagement Survey Starts Today

Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine employees have an opportunity to provide feedback on the organization through the 2019 Employee Engagement survey, which launched on June 3. Employees will receive an email from consulting firm Press Ganey inviting them to complete the confidential assessment. Penn State Health will use the results to analyze the current state of the organizational culture related to employee engagement. The survey will remain open through June 24.

Hausman Inaugural Lecture

Bernice Hausman, chair of Penn State College of Medicine’s Department of Humanities, will discuss “Literature and Otherness: What Reading Teaches Us” during her inaugural lecture:

Hillemeier, Faulkner Retirement Celebrations

Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine employees, faculty and students are invited to attend a retirement celebration for two longtime leaders ― Dr. Craig Hillemeier, dean of Penn State College of Medicine, chief executive officer of Penn State Health and senior vice president for health affairs at Penn State, and Mark Faulkner, general counsel of Penn State Health:

  • Wednesday, June 5
  • 4-6 p.m.
  • Hershey Medical Center, Rotunda Café

Light refreshments will be served. Hillemeier served Penn State for nearly 20 years, and Faulkner began providing legal services to Penn State in 1976.

All of Us Research Program

Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute and Penn State Cancer Institute will host the National Institutes of Health’s All of Us Journey, a traveling, hands-on informational exhibit designed to promote research and improve health:

The All of Us Research Program is an effort to gather data from 1 million or more people living in the U.S., which approved researchers can access to explore how environment, lifestyle and genes impact health.
