Liu Earns Diversity in Research Award

Dajiang Liu, associate professor of Public Health Sciences, will receive the Outstanding Champion of Diversity in Research Award at the Penn State College of Medicine 2019 Research Recognition Awards. Liu will be honored following the Dean’s Spring Lecture on May 14. The Research Recognition Awards highlight the achievements of College of Medicine and Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center investigators.

Charles Lang, distinguished professor of cellular and molecular physiology and surgery, will give the annual Dean’s Lecture:

‘Good Day PA’

Penn State Health doctors will discuss resources available for cancer survivors on an abc27 “Good Day PA” broadcast and webchat:

The show will feature Tim Card, the first patient to receive chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy at Penn State Cancer Institute. Dr. Michael Hayes and Dr. Niraj Gusani, both of the Cancer Institute, will also answer patient questions.

Got the Nerve? Triathlon

Sponsored by Penn State Health, the 16th annual Got the Nerve? Triathlon will help support adaptive athletes:

Proceeds from the race support the IM ABLE Foundation, a local charity that helps adaptive athletes pay for their gear.

Fauci to Speak at Commencement

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, is the commencement speaker at Penn State College of Medicine’s graduation ceremonies:

Fauci has advised five presidents on HIV/AIDS and other domestic and global health issues. In a 2018 analysis of Google Scholar citations, he was ranked as the 26th most highly cited researcher of all time.

Children’s Miracle Network Telethon

The 35th annual Children’s Miracle Network Telethon will broadcast live from Penn State Health Children’s Hospital on WGAL 8:

Organizers hope to purchase a new pediatric ambulance with the proceeds. The telethon will give each $35 donor a shirt designed by Miracle Child Lilly, who was born at 29 weeks after her mom was critically injured in a car accident.
