DeGarmo Named Vice President for Academic Practice Division

Craig DeGarmo, formerly chief administrative officer and vice chair of administration for the Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, will join Penn State Health Medical Group as vice president of the Academic Practice Division on June 10. He replaces Corby Myers, who has served as interim vice president.

Eyster Wins Lifetime Achievement Award

Dr. Elaine Eyster, distinguished professor of medicine and pathology at Penn State College of Medicine, received a lifetime achievement award from the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Research Society May 10 at the society’s awards banquet in New Orleans.

Billingsley Named American College of Mohs Surgery President

The American College of Mohs Surgery elected Dr. Elizabeth Billingsley, a dermatologist at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, as president. The College is a membership organization of fellowship-trained skin cancer and reconstructive surgeons who specialize in the Mohs micrographic surgical technique used to treat skin cancer.

‘Good Day PA’

Penn State Health doctors will discuss resources available for cancer survivors on an abc27 “Good Day PA” broadcast and webchat:

The show will feature Tim Card, the first patient to receive chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy at Penn State Cancer Institute. Dr. Michael Hayes and Dr. Niraj Gusani, both of the Cancer Institute, will also answer patient questions.

Pedal for a Free Smoothie

LionPulse, BeWell and Penn State PRO Wellness, will give away free smoothie samples (while supplies last) to everyone who pedals an exercise bike:

  • Thursday, May 23
  • 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
  • In front of the Academic Support Building

The event is free. No registration necessary.

Brewser Adventure Race

Appalachian Brewing Company will host its 4th annual Brewser Adventure Race to raise funds for the Child Life Program at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital:

  • Sunday, May 26
  • 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • Appalachian Brewing Company, 6462 Carlisle Pike, Mechanicsburg, Pa.

Volunteers are needed to help with registration, parking, the race course, lunch, water restocking and other jobs. They will receive a free boxed lunch, free pasta after the race and free beer. Email Megan Weber with questions or to volunteer.
