American Society of Anesthesiologists

Several faculty, residents and fellows the Department of Anesthesiology and Preoperative Medicine will represent Penn State College of Medicine at the annual meeting of the American Society of Anesthesiologists in San Francisco Oct. 13-17. More than 14,000 thought leaders and anesthesia providers from more than 80 countries will attend the event, which bridges research and technology with patient care.

Fall Dean’s Lecture

The Fall Dean’s Lecture on CAR-T cell therapy by Dr. Carl June of the University of Pennsylvania is now available for viewing on Mediasite.

National Case Management Week

National Case Management Week Oct. 7-13 recognizes the dedication, compassion and quality patient care outcomes achieved by staff who provide case management. The Care Transitions (Case Management) Department at Penn State Health provide strategies to overcome challenges and ensure that care is patient-centered, safe, effective and delivered on a timely basis.

Fall Employee Update meetings for Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine employees are scheduled for the following dates:

  • Oct. 18, Noon-1 p.m. – Sipe Avenue Building
  • Oct. 22, 7:30-8:30 a.m. – College of Medicine Lecture Room D

CareConnect Tailgate Parties

All employees are invited to celebrate the launch of CareConnect, Penn State Health’s new integrated electronic medical record and revenue cycle platform, at several tailgate parties on Friday, Oct. 19:

  • 11 a.m.-2 p.m. – Biomedical Research Center Courtyard
  • 4-7 p.m. – Biomedical Research Center Courtyard
  • 11 p.m.-2 a.m. – Rotunda Cafe, Hershey Medical Center

The menu features football cookies, popcorn, soft pretzels, soda and water.

Employee Mammogram Nights

Penn State Breast Center will host three Employee Mammogram Nights as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month:

Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine female employees are invited to register at 1-800-243-1455.

Beam Signing

Employees are invited to share their stories and memories of Penn State Health Children’s Hospital online and sign the final beam for the expansion project now until Oct.  24. The beam is located outside P1106 in the hallway behind the Tree House Café. All staff, faculty and students can watch the beam being put into place during the Topping Off Ceremony:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 24
  • 10:30 a.m.-Noon
  • Tree House Café

The beam will be placed atop the expansion at 11:30 a.m. Refreshments will be provided to attendees.

Department of Medicine Chair Lecture

Dr. Thomas Ma, chair of the Department of Medicine at Penn State College of Medicine and Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, will present his inaugural lecture:

  • “Targeting Intestinal Tight Junction Barrier to Treat Alcoholic Liver Disease”
  • Wednesday, Oct. 24
  • 5 p.m.
  • Junker Auditorium

The lecture will be live-streamed and available for viewing during and after the lecture on Mediasite.
