National Health Care Facilities and Engineering Week, Oct. 21-27, recognizes the important role health care facility managers and engineers play in keeping the nation’s health care facilities safe and operational. Facilities staff members, including grounds, central plant operations, waste processing, design and construction, Building Operations Center, maintenance and safety keep our facilities running smoothly. Breast Center T-shirt Sale

Penn State Breast Center staff will offer information on breast health and Breast Center T-shirts for sale during Breast Cancer Awareness Month:

  • Thursday, Oct. 25, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Academic Support Building lobby

Fall Employee Update Meetings

Fall Employee Update meetings for Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine employees are scheduled for the following dates:

  • Oct. 18, Noon-1 p.m. – Sipe Avenue Building
  • Oct. 22, 7:30-8:30 a.m. – College of Medicine, Lecture Room D
  • Oct. 22, Noon-1 p.m. – St. Joseph Medical Center downtown campus
  • Oct. 22, 2-3 p.m. – St. Joseph Medical Center main campus, Bern Township

CareConnect Tailgate Parties

All employees are invited to celebrate the launch of CareConnect, Penn State Health’s new integrated electronic medical record and revenue cycle platform, at several tailgate parties on Friday, Oct. 19:

  • 11 a.m.-2 p.m. – Biomedical Research Center Courtyard
  • 4-7 p.m. – Biomedical Research Center Courtyard
  • 11 p.m.-2 a.m. – Rotunda Café, Hershey Medical Center

The menu features football cookies, popcorn, soft pretzels, soda and water.

Flu Shots

Employees can receive free flu shots next week at the following locations:

  • Monday, Oct. 22, 8 a.m.-1 p.m., Academic Support Building (ASB) 4000B
  • Tuesday, Oct. 23, Noon-4 p.m., Wellness Fair
  • Wednesday, Oct. 24, 8-11 a.m., ASB 4000B

Well-Being Week

Well-Being Week, Oct. 22-26, offers employees opportunities to learn how to enhance their physical and emotional wellness. The week begins with:

“Joy in Academic Medicine: How to Thrive, Not Just Survive”

THON 5K

The 18th annual THON 5K is set for Sunday, Oct. 21 in State College. Those who can’t make the race in person can sign up for THON’s Virtual 5K. The entire $15 registration fee will directly benefit Four Diamonds at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital to cover 100 percent of the costs of patient care and fund lifesaving research. Employee Mammogram Nights

Penn State Breast Center will host Employee Mammogram Nights on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 23 and Tuesday, Nov. 6
  • 4:30-8 p.m.
  • Penn State Breast Center, 30 Hope Drive, Suite 1800, Entrance A

Female employees of Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine can register at 1-800-243-1455.

Beam Signing

Employees are invited to share their stories and memories of Penn State Health Children’s Hospital online and sign the final beam for the expansion project now until Oct. 24. The beam is located outside P1106 in the hallway behind the Tree House Café. All staff, faculty and students can watch the beam being put into place during the Topping Off Ceremony:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 24
  • 10:30 a.m. – Noon
  • Tree House Café

The beam will be placed atop the expansion at 11:30 a.m. Refreshments will be provided. 

Drug Take-Back Events

Penn State Health will host two community Drive-Thru Prescription Drug Take-Back events:

  • Saturday, Oct. 27
  • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Academic Support Building, Hershey
  • Penn State Health Medical Group – Palmyra, 941 Park Drive.
