Sebastianelli named Director-Elect

Dr. Wayne Sebastianelli, Kalenak Professor in Orthopaedics at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and medical director at Penn State Sports Medicine in State College, has been named director-elect of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. The nonprofit organization establishes educational and performance standards for orthopedic surgeons.

CenteringParenting Clinic

Penn State Health St. Joseph will offer a CenteringParenting clinic at its downtown campus beginning this January. The program will pair six to eight mothers and their partners, support persons and same-age infants together in community with their health care providers for the first two years of the babies’ lives. Each session serves as a well visit for babies, while also providing education, fellowship and support for parents. Learn more at centeringhealthcare.org.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine’s iconic Crescent will be lit purple from Oct. 23-29 to show support for National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. One in four women and one in seven men have been the victims of severe physical violence from a partner in their lifetime. #SurvivorSpeaks empowers all survivors to come forward and share their stories.

Penn State Breast Center will host Employee Mammogram Nights on the following dates:

Speakers include Dr. John C. Maxwell, a leadership expert, author and coach; Carly Fiorina, 2016 presidential candidate; Daniel Pink, author; Debra Searle, entrepreneur; and Tyler Perry, filmmaker, actor and philanthropist. Tickets are available online. Proceeds benefit Children’s Miracle Network.

Department of Medicine Chair Lecture

Dr. Thomas Ma, chair of the Department of Medicine at Penn State College of Medicine and Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, will present his inaugural lecture:

  • “Targeting Intestinal Tight Junction Barrier to Treat Alcoholic Liver Disease”
  • Wednesday, Oct. 24

The lecture will be livestreamed and available for viewing during and after the lecture on Mediasite.

Good Day PA!

Dr. Necole Streeper and Dr. John Knoedler, both urologists at Hershey Medical Center, will discuss the causes and treatment of kidney stones, and two patients will tell their stories on “Good Day PA!”
