Facilities manager

Gregory Fink, left, facilities manager of utilities services, was selected by the Pennsylvania Society for Health Facility Engineering as the 2018 recipient of the annual Donald M. Sauerman award. This award honors outstanding contributions to the field of health facility operations or biomedical engineering in Pennsylvania. Fink is a member of the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center water management program team and fine-tunes preventative maintenance schedules and participates in the conversion and implementation group for the computerized maintenance management system. He also leads the combined heat and power plant operations.

Concert Series

The Great Music Unplugged concert series kicks off a new season at Penn State College of Medicine with “The Gift of Poise:”

Maestro Stuart Malina, pianist and artistic director of the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra, and Peter Sirotin, violinist and artistic director of Market Square Concerts, will perform. This concert will be the first official performance using a new Steinway grand piano gifted by Drs. Keith Cheng and Shou Ling Leong.

Penn State Physician Scientist training program

The Penn State Physician Scientist Training Program celebrates the one-year anniversary of its launch:

Inclusion Academy Session

Marilyn Lynk, executive director, Adventist HealthCare Center for Health Equity and Wellness, will lead an Inclusion Academy Session:

Holistic Medicine free program

Dr. Frederick Foote, a retired U.S. Navy physician and the director of the Poetry Project at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., will present a free program on holistic medicine:

  • “Healing Wounded Warriors through the Arts and Nature”

Foote will describe the Walter Reed Healing Arts Program and the $5 million Green Road Project, the nation’s largest wild-type healing garden. Contact Claire de Boer for more information.

Doctors Kienle Center for Humanistic Medicine

The Doctors Kienle Center for Humanistic Medicine invites community members to attend “FaceAge,” an award-winning multi-media installation created from filmed cross-generational encounters:

  • Open to faculty, students and staff with ID badges from noon to 3 p.m. on Oct. 5-10
  • Open to the general public from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 8 and Tuesday, Oct. 9, and from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10

A 56-minute loop of imagery on three screens weaves together interconnected chapters in which young adults and aging individuals reflect on life. Andrew Belser, 2017-18 Penn State Laureate professor of movement, voice and acting master of fine arts performance program, created “FaceAge.”

Operations

Stairwell closing

Stairwell 13 will be closed for painting and lighting upgrades through Friday, Sept. 28 from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. Contact Matt Grimes at 717-531-0003, x.284068, with any questions.

Small crane placement

Equipment trucks will bring in a small crane to assist with beam placement in the far-east corner of the Children’s Hospital expansion site. The construction team will bring the crane onto the Hershey campus on Monday, Sept. 24 at 4 a.m. The crane will remain in place until Thursday, Sept. 27 at 8 p.m., when it will be disassembled. Traffic control personnel will be posted at the intersection of Centerview and Campus Drives and at the entrance and exit of the construction site during this time to ensure the safety of anyone using the crosswalks.
