Construction will begin at the intersection of Route 322 and Fishburn Road on Wednesday, Sept. 5 to widen the road and install turn lanes. This is a Derry Township project. Contact the Facilities Department with questions.

Bladder Support Group annual picnic

The Penn State Health Bladder Cancer Support group is having its annual picnic:

Early detection of prostate cancer offers men more treatment options with potentially few side effects. Register for a free prostate cancer screening:

Free community education program

Experts from Penn State Heart and Vascular Institute will discuss atrial fibrillation (AFib) during a free community education program:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 18
  • 6 p.m.
  • University Conference Center

Drs. Mario Gonzalez and Sarah Hussain will examine ablation vs. antiarrhythmic therapy for treatment of AFib, oral blood thinners use post-ablation and personal devices available to monitor the condition. Operations

Several stairwells in Hershey Medical Center will be closed for maintenance on the following dates:

  • Sept. 4-14: Stairwell 13 will be painted from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. on weeknights only. The painting will begin at the top of Stairwell 13, and one floor per night will be completed. The stairwell lighting will also be upgraded.
  • Sept. 7-9: Stairwell 21 and the H1199J connecting corridor will be closed for flooring replacement at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7 until 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9. There will be no access to the first floor of Stairwell 13.
  • Sept. 14-16: Stairwell 21 and the H1199J connecting corridor will be closed at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14 until 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16 for wallpaper removal and painting. There will be no access to the first floor of Stairwell 13.

Hershey Medical Center electricians will perform maintenance resulting in brief electrical interruptions of one to give seconds at the Biomedical Research Building and Basic Science.

Both ivory and red outlets may experience an interruption. Any sensitive equipment or computers that will be affected by a brief loss of power should be plugged into an Uninterruptable Power Supply if available or be powered down for protection during this period. Elevator 41 in the University Physician Center will be taken out of service on Monday, Sept. 10 for approximately 12 weeks so that the elevator machine can be replaced and the control system can be upgraded. See the map and contact Matt Grimes at 717-531-0003, x284068, for details.
