Public health preparedness program graduate’s poster honored at international conference
Joan Concilio, a 2019 graduate of Penn State College of Medicine’s Master of Professional Studies in Homeland Security, Public Health Preparedness concentration, recently won a “best poster” award at the World Association of Disaster and Emergency Medicine’s 2019 Congress in Brisbane, Australia.
Concilio’s poster, Understanding Boko Haram activity and Lassa fever incidence in Nigeria, 2017-2018, was completed under the mentorship of Eugene Lengerich, VMD, MS, Professor, Department of Public Health Sciences and director of the public health preparedness program, and Gavin Macgregor-Skinner, BVSc, MSc, MPH, MRCVS, Assistant Professor of Public Health Sciences.
Her poster was honored as the best of its day, of more than 70 other posters.
Concilio, of Dover, Pa., is also an employee of the College of Medicine, where she works as a web content and design specialist for research. She received a bachelor of science in mathematics from York College of Pennsylvania in 2002.
