Khalid recognized as Hershey Medical Center’s first Physician of the Month

Dr. Muhammad Fahad Khalid, chief, Division of Hospital Medicine, has been selected Hershey Medical Center’s Physician of the Month, December 2021.
“Dr. Khalid leads by example,” a nominator wrote. “He does the job he asks of others, and exemplifies what it is to be a caring individual. His ability to relate to others and to truly value them as individuals sets him apart. He is an advocate, an ally to anyone who needs. He is honest, professional and personable. He is an asset to the Penn State Health team and more than deserving of Physician of the Month.”
Khalid has been working on the forefront of the COVID-19 pandemic from the onset, caring for the sick and working with multidisciplinary teams for research, treatment and care. He has provided patient-centered care and showcases his integrity as clinical teams navigate unknown territory. He worked closely with COVID unit staff and the emerging pathogens team to offer educational opportunities and held education blitzes for nurses. During the COVID-19 pandemic, his team also took on Intensive Care Unit care due to the increase in patient volumes.
Khalid’s kindness toward patients is evident in many ways. When a COVID patient expressed frustration that her hair was disheveled, he arrived early on his birthday to brush her hair as promised.
Khalid joined Hershey Medical Center in 2016. He received his medical degree from St. George’s University of Medicine. Khalid was awarded the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching and has published several research pieces. He also serves as a spokesperson on COVID-19 issues.
The Physician of the Month award recognizes physicians, including residents, who demonstrate outstanding performance, respect, integrity, team work and excellence in all their interactions with patients, families and colleagues.
Medical Center employees and faculty may nominate physicians, including residents, on the PAWS UP! page at any time. Awardees are selected monthly. Nominations that meet criteria, but are not selected for a monthly award, will remain in the candidate pool for monthly or yearly physician recognitions.
