Lancaster Medical Center presents Crawford with Mountain Laurel Award

Lancaster Medical Center has named Ed Crawford, a laboratory assistant and phlebotomist, as its Mountain Laurel Award recipient for the third quarter of 2024. Crawford was nominated for the kindness, dedication and professionalism he brings to his role every day.

Andrea Hayes, a registered nurse, nominated Crawford for the Mountain Laurel Award on behalf of her entire Medical/Surgical Unit staff. Her nomination highlighted both his extraordinary poise during an understaffed day, as well as his patience and compassion with patients and staff alike.

“The positive light he brings to his patients is extraordinary,” Hayes wrote. “I have received many compliments from patients about Ed. They say they ‘never even felt the needle’ or ‘Ed made me feel at ease.’ He is also kind to nursing staff and doesn’t make us feel as if we are taking up his time. He answers our questions and has the patience of a saint.”

The Mountain Laurel Award recognizes health care professionals in non-nursing roles who have demonstrated their dedication to providing an extraordinary experience to patients and their families. It is named after Pennsylvania’s state flower, which is also a symbol of perseverance.
