McKenna: Holy Spirit’s Labor and Delivery, NICU move to Hampden extended to Dec. 1

Don McKenna, regional president of Holy Spirit Medical Center and Hampden Medical Center, sent the following email to Holy Spirit and Hampden employees and Penn State Health Medical Group leadership on Aug. 30.
Earlier this month, we announced that Penn State Health will relocate Holy Spirit Medical Center’s labor and delivery and neonatal intensive care services (NICU) to Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center when the new hospital opens on Friday, Oct. 1. We are extending the relocation date to Dec. 1.
“We look forward to providing obstetric care at Hampden Medical Center,” says Dr. Ngozi Uchendu, lead physician, Penn State Health OB/GYN, Camp Hill and Harrisburg. “This extension will allow the physicians, nurse midwives and NICU staff additional time to familiarize ourselves with the new facility and get better acquainted with the Hampden team so the transition of excellent care from one location to another is seamless for our patients.”
Dr. Oluwamayowale Folaranmi, medical director of the neonatal intensive care unit at Holy Spirit Medical Center, is supportive of the transition of maternity and NICU services to the Women’s and Babies Center at Hampden Medical Center. “We are excited to be able to continue providing specialized services for our youngest patients in the well-appointed Level 2 NICU and well-baby nursery,” she says.
Following the transition on Dec. 1, Holy Spirit Medical Center will continue to provide breast care surgery, imaging and other women’s services. The hospital’s focus will remain on services such as Level II trauma, heart, stroke and neurosurgical care and behavioral health.
