MD/PhD Medical Scientist Training Program receives NIH grant
The Penn State College of Medicine MD/PhD Program recently received an NIH-sponsored Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) Award. Only 47 programs out of about 90 nationally have received this award.
The MSTP Award addresses the need to develop physician-scientists who are well trained in basic, translational and clinical research. The award supports the MD/PhD program to train medical scientists interested in pursuing careers in biomedical research and academic medicine. The College of Medicine also provides support to ensure ongoing and future success of the program.
There are currently 53 students in the program, which spans four years of medical school and three to five years of biomedical research, resulting in the award of both the MD and PhD degrees to graduates of the program.
