Penn State Health offers Moderna booster shots to employees starting Oct. 29
Penn State Health will begin offering the Moderna booster shot to eligible employees this week, following the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Oct. 20 amendment of its emergency use authorizations for both the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccines to allow a single booster dose.
As with Pfizer, the Moderna booster shot may be administered at least six months after the completion of the initial mRNA vaccine series, or two months following an initial dose of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccine, based on these recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Eligible employees may sign up here to receive their Moderna booster shots at the following locations:
- St. Joseph Medical Center
- Friday, Oct. 29, 9 a.m. – noon
- Wednesday, Nov. 3, 9 a.m. – noon
- Penn State Health Lime Spring Outpatient Center, 2221 Noll Drive, 2nd floor, Lancaster
- Friday, Oct. 29, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
- Friday, Nov. 5, 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
- Penn State Health Medical Group ─ Cocoa, 1120 Cocoa Avenue, Hershey
- Thursday, Nov. 4, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
- Hershey Medical Center, Rooms T2501 and T2502
- Tuesday, Nov. 30, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
- Thursday, Dec. 2, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
- Tuesday, Dec. 14, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
The FDA has authorized the use of a heterologous — “mix and match” — booster dose for all three currently available COVID-19 vaccines. Penn State Health is not administering Johnson & Johnson boosters. Instead, any eligible employee who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine elsewhere may now receive a booster dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine through Penn State Health.
