New class of MD/PhD students begins journey at College of Medicine

Penn State College of Medicine’s MD/PhD Medical Scientist Training Program welcomed five new first-year medical students during the 30th annual White Coat Ceremony held on Friday, July 25.

The White Coat Ceremony is an important milestone for MD students, as they are welcomed into the profession and presented with their first white coats. During the ceremony, they are asked to renew their commitment to professionalism and humanism in the practice of medicine.

The new MD/PhD trainees are:

  • Shreyas Annaswamy from the University of Texas at Austin
  • Sam Lopez from Yale University
  • Anisha Prabhu from Penn State
  • Anirudh Saxena from the University of Maryland, College Park
  • Vincent Zhao from the University of Maryland, College Park

The MD/PhD Medical Scientist Training Program is supported by a grant from the National Institutes of Health and trains medical scientists interested in pursuing careers in biomedical research and academic medicine.
