New Westview Parking Garage set to open Jan. 27

Employees, faculty and students on the Hershey campus will soon have more room to park. The new Westview Parking Garage, next to the University Fitness and Conference Center, is expected to be completed on Monday, Jan. 27.
The gate at Lot A-1 will be permanently removed, making a total of 1,800 parking spaces available to staff, students and visitors on a first-come, first-served basis. A new loop road, Westview Drive, will provide convenient access to the garage and west side of campus and reduce congestion on Campus Drive.

The location of the five-story Westview Parking Garage on the west side of campus supports the long-term master plan for growth of Penn State College of Medicine and research facilities. “When this new parking deck opens, we will net 1,073 new parking spaces on campus once the spaces lost for construction are accounted for,” said Keith Sunderman, project director.
Parking Garage Features
A shuttle stop at the Westview Parking Garage will be added to the shuttle route, and the shuttle will stop at the garage every 10 minutes. A monitor in the waiting area on the parking garage’s ground level will show the shuttle locations in real time. The waiting area, stair towers and elevator towers will be heated in the winter to avoid icing and enhance pedestrian safety.
Six electric vehicle charging stations will be available for a nominal fee through a ChargePoint mobile app.
The parking garage was designed to add two more levels with about 250 spaces each when needed. Approximately 200 new trees were planted along the pedestrian paths and surrounding landscaping.
Design-build firm Clayco Inc. began work on the $35 million project in December 2018. Other active construction projects on the Hershey campus include the Hershey Medical Center Emergency Department expansion, slated to be done in summer 2020, and a three-story addition to Penn State Health Children’s Hospital, expected to open in fall 2020.
